Q: 3 tracks you’re into right now?
Patrice Baumel ‘Sender’ & ‘Receiver’ (Afterlife)
Wow! I really don’t know how he does it over & over again but Patrice absolutely smashes things to smithereens with these two absolute dark destroyers. I have a bit of a man crush on him which I’m not afraid to say. Both tracks are similar but you can definitely drop them in set. Very simple with very few layers but what he has is immense. Definitely the best tunes so far this year. Love him.
Market Memories - ‘Rain Dance’ (All Night Records)
Another simple but extravagant tune here by Market Memories. I find it fascinating how people can make tunes that have very few elements but just sound bloody huge, something I’m slightly jealous about. “Rain Dance” starts off with driving but minimal drums for the first half then drop in to a huge effed up arpeggio that really does things to me in places it really shouldn’t. A must for any serious disk jockey.
Kölsch ‘Shoulder Of Giants’ (Kompakt)
Kölsch is my favourite producer on one of my favourite labels. “Shoulders Of Giants” should really be a cheese fest but somehow treads the line of cool impeccably. Sounding like a non racist Ten Walls this tune really does the business, a lesson on how to do music for the masses without sounding commercial. Awesome sauce.
Q: Favourite piece of studio equipment?
Favourite piece of hardware kit is the Modal 008 that Techno Cat is sitting on. This is literally a game changer for me. I use it on pretty much everything. It does cost an arm and a leg but seriously worth it in my humble opinion.
